MISSION VIEJO : Speed Limit Reduced Near Medical Center
The City Council has reduced the speed limit on Medical Center Drive to 35 miles per hour, a 10 m.p.h. reduction from the top speed now permitted on the street leading to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center.
The change came after the city reviewed traffic conditions around the medical center. On Tuesday, the hospital will open a five-story addition that will double its size and increase traffic in the area.
Extra parking was already in place at the facility. Medical Center Drive, which connects Crown Valley and Marguerite parkways, recently underwent resurfacing and re-striping.
The new speed limits, adopted Monday, were approved by the city traffic commission earlier this month. The traffic commissioners also recommended putting a radar trailer on the street that will show drivers their speed on a large display board.
The council also approved red curbing on both sides of Medical Center Drive for the entire length of the street.
