BUSH II: Given all the Republican attacks on the “media elite,” did Polydor have any qualms about releasing such a pointed anti-Bush record?

“A lot of the best popular music these days is political, whether it’s Public Enemy or XClan,” says Davitt Sigerson, Polydor president and a longtime friend of Was. “I’m not in any way uncomfortable with music that has a social content.”

Would he be as likely to release a song attacking Clinton?

“I’m better friends with Don Was than with Lee Greenwood,” he says, referring to the country star, an unabashed Bush supporter. “But as a guy from a record company, I’d say that if someone came up with an intelligent concept, I would consider it.”
