City of Industry : Housing Exemption Bill

Share

The state Senate has unanimously approved and sent to Gov. Pete Wilson a bill that would exempt the City of Industry from certain state housing requirements and ease the way for construction of a high school in north Diamond Bar.

The measure by Sen. Frank Hill (R-Whittier) was given final passage Wednesday on a 34-0 vote. The bill allows the City of Industry to contribute $8 million a year to the Los Angeles County Housing Authority to build housing for people with low and moderate incomes instead of building the housing within city limits.

Hill said he agreed to handle the bill as long as the City of Industry would sell for $1 land sought by the Pomona Unified School District for a high school in Diamond Bar.

Liza Cannon, a spokeswoman for Wilson, said the governor will have until Sept. 30 to act. She said Wilson has not taken a position on the issue.
