COUNTYWIDE : District Considers School Busing Fees
- Share via
In anticipation of state budget cuts, Pleasant Valley School District officials are studying the feasibility of charging parents to bus their children to school.
In Ventura County, the Conejo Valley Unified School District in Thousand Oaks has already approved fees for bus transportation.
After a presentation last Thursday by Tom Goins, director of maintenance, operations and transportation, the board at its regular meeting asked Goins to come back with more specific information, such as who rides the bus.
The board also asked Goins to consider how many more students would be likely to take the bus if the district eliminated the rule limiting the service to children living more than three miles from school, which could make the proposal more feasible. Last year, the district bused an average of 732 students a day at a cost of $580,000.
