Marguerite Henry: An Author Rediscovered

I enjoyed the article about Marguerite Henry (“Misty Rides Again, Charming Children,” July 23).

Several years ago while volunteering at my children’s school library and seeing Henry’s name on all the horse stories, it occurred to me that a Marguerite Henry was the author of my favorite book when I was child, “Geraldine Belinda,” which is not about horses.

Could it be the same person? I wrote her. Indeed it was. Marguerite Henry wrote me a lovely letter on “Misty” stationery, enclosed a photo of herself, which I had requested, and an autographed bookplate for my book.

She also put me in touch with the illustrator, Gladys Rourke Blackwood, who also wrote me a nice letter and sent an autographed photo of herself.
