California IN BRIEF : BERKELEY : 2 Arrested at Protest of Anarchist’s Death
Two people were arrested during a protest over the shooting death of Rosebud Denovo, the woman who broke into the home of UC Berkeley’s chancellor. About 150 people gathered at People’s Park but then spilled out into the street and marched to the campus in an attempt to reach Chancellor Chang-Lin Tien’s home, UC Berkeley spokesman Jesus Mena said. Protesters set fire to campus bulletin boards, broke three windows and vandalized three cars, Mena said. Sporadic protests have occurred since Tuesday when Denovo, a self-described anarchist, broke into Tien’s home armed with a machete and knife. An Oakland officer shot Denovo after she lunged toward him with the machete. UC police on Sunday arrested one person for vandalism and one for assault on an officer, Mena said.
