After the Riots / NEWS IN BRIEF : RIOT DEATH : Partial Skeleton Found in Debris

Share

A forensic anthropologist will attempt to identify a partial skeleton found in burned-out debris on a lot where a strip mall was destroyed during the riots. The remains--an arm and the top of a skull--were found last weekend by a worker clearing debris from the lot at Pico Boulevard and Hoover Street.

Investigators have not determined how the victim died, but said they doubt that the person was killed in the fire that destroyed the mall. Workers had already cleared away that debris but on Saturday they found new riot debris dumped on the nearly vacant lot, apparently by a crew working at another location.

Coroner’s office spokesman Bob Dambacher said the death is being investigated as a possible 53rd victim of the riots.
