Backup tailback Deon Strother, USC’s leading rusher last season, has a sprained ankle and will be sidelined during Saturday’s opener at San Diego State, Coach Larry Smith said. Smith also said that offensive guard Clay Hattabaugh probably will be sidelined for two games because of a dislocated knee.
