War of Words: Word out of Vice President Dan Quayle’s camp is that his staff claims to have a copy of the highly guarded script for the Sept. 21 season premiere of “Murphy Brown.” Staff members are telling reporters that in the show, Murphy Brown talks about all the attention she’s been getting, including Quayle’s, then launches into a spirited defense of single motherhood. The hourlong show ends, they say, with Brown meeting with a group of single mothers who agree that their lifestyle is not deviant. Responded a CBS executive, “I have one question: Why is the vice president bragging about being in the possession of stolen material? This is copyrighted. It says ‘Property of Warner Bros.’ I doubt Warner Bros. gave it to him. Doesn’t that strike you as a bit questionable?” The “Murphy Brown” office did not want to comment.
