NATIONAL CITY : Two Men Accused of Rape, Robbery

Share

Two men accused of invading and robbing a home and then raping a woman who lived there have been arrested, police announced Wednesday.

A third suspect remains at large in connection with the Aug. 18 attack in which a National City woman was “repeatedly raped and sodomized in the presence of her husband and small child,” according to a spokesman for the National City Police Department.

The spokesman said three men broke into the home and, in addition to assaulting the woman, kicked and beat her husband. They then ransacked the residence, the spokesman said, seizing stereo equipment, appliances, jewelry, money and the victims’ ATM cards.

The assailants fled in the victims’ vehicle, he said, and within minutes of leaving the victims’ home, the suspects and a female companion used the ATM cards at two different banks.

The victims’ vehicle was recovered Aug. 19 near a bank. The spokesman said a subsequent investigation and surveillance led to the arrest last Saturday of Alfred D. Lucas, 25, and Rene Tull, 23.

A search warrant served at two different locations in National City resulted in the recovery of several items and the arrest of Desiree Grant on a charge of possession of stolen property.

Lucas has been arraigned and is being held in County Jail on $500,000 bail. The third suspect, Steve Leonard Simmons, remains at large. Simmons is a registered sex offender, authorities say, and is wanted for a parole violation.

Anyone with information about Simmons’ whereabouts is encouraged to call the National City Police at 336-4411.
