ORANGE COUNTY LETTERS : Wives’ Pet Peeves

Share

Regarding the fish gift that wouldn’t go away (“A Going-Away Gift That Wouldn’t,” Dianne Klein column, Aug. 18): my strategy exactly! As I told my husband and my 4-year-old as I gave the fish tank responsibility over to my husband, “I didn’t ask for pets; these are not my fish, and I’m no longer caring for them!” It only took about two months and two tank “rinsings” by my husband to kill the fish. I was guiltily relieved. I think I made the right decision. However, I have a neighbor who flushed her goldfish down the toilet before it was dead, only to find it alive and well three weeks later in the toilet bowl one day! She asked God for forgiveness and felt this must be a sign of a second chance to correct her misdeed. The fish is still swimming. She should give it to her husband.
