OXNARD : Rapist Sentenced to 45-Year Prison Term
An Oxnard man convicted of raping three prostitutes and trying to rape and kidnap a fourth woman has been sentenced to 45 years in prison.
A Ventura County Superior Court jury in June convicted Jose German Martin, 21, of three counts of rape, two counts of robbery and two other sex-related charges stemming from the attacks, which occurred last year.
Martin also was convicted of assault with intent to rape and attempted kidnaping in another 1991 incident.
At a hearing this week, Martin told Judge Burt Henson that he is innocent and that the victims had lied.
Henson imposed the 45-year term after Deputy Dist. Atty. Lela M. Henke-Dobroth asked for 52 years and Martin’s attorney, Robert I. Schwartz, requested a 34-year sentence.
