Fitting Into a Dream Vacation

Share

Dear Diary,

My wonderful brother Tim has given me a trip to a resort on the Big Island of Hawaii this fall.

Of course, I am thrilled at the thought. I can’t think of a better way to relax than sitting in a beach chair, reading a trashy novel and sipping a cold soda.

I think a few day trips will be in order when I get too sunburned. The Big Island is known for its volcanoes Mauna Loa and Kilauea. I’d like to see them up close. Then I’d like to take a few hikes through the tropical rain forests filled with cascading waterfalls and exotic plants.

But, there is a small problem that could inhibit my optimal vacation plan (I can only express this in my diary!). This old body of mine has gotten a bit flabby. I have let my exercise regimen fall completely to pieces. My twice-weekly tennis matches have been put on permanent hold. My regular tennis buds have aced me right off their lists.

My eating habits haven’t been any better. I used to be meticulous about eating yogurt, fruit and vegetables every day. Now, I am lucky to squeeze in a burger and fries. Ah, I know how to get rid of this unwanted anxiety (to say nothing of pounds)! On Thursday, I am going to get some ideas on how to whip myself back into shape at the Century City Chamber of Commerce’s Health, Fitness and Nutrition Expo. The free event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the ABC Entertainment Center, 2025 Avenue of the Stars in Century City.
