Man Sought in Fatal Shooting of Woman

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Monday that they were seeking a 20-year-old man as a suspect in an Agua Dulce shooting, in which a housesitter was critically wounded and her daughter killed.

The suspect was identified as Jason Michael Watson, son of the owners of the house where the shooting occurred, who may have fled to Arizona with a teen-age friend, deputies said.

The wounded woman, Mary Glover, 63, was house-sitting for vacationing friends who apparently had advised her to keep an eye on Watson’s activities because “they did not trust their son’s judgment,” Deputy Angie McLaughlin said.

Detectives said Watson reportedly appeared at the Hierba Road residence sometime Sunday with a teen-age friend. When Glover, who was in charge of the house, asked the youth to leave, a fight began, McLaughlin said, ending in the shooting in the living room.

Glover’s 34-year-old daughter--also named Mary Glover--was visiting at the time of the shooting and died at the scene. The elder Glover was taken by sheriff’s helicopter to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where she underwent surgery and remained in critical but stable condition Monday, a nursing supervisor said.

The two women apparently were discovered by the owners of the house--whom deputies did not identify--when they returned Sunday evening to the remote mountain community between the Antelope and Santa Clarita valleys.

It was not known where the women lived, McLaughlin said.

Deputies believe Watson and the teen-age boy fled in the dead woman’s yellow car, a 1991 Geo Storm, license number 2YFW957, McLaughlin said. They were believed to be armed with a .44-caliber Magnum pistol and a .22-caliber rifle, and should be considered dangerous, McLaughlin said.

Watson sometimes uses the name Richardson, she said, and it was not known whether he lived in the Agua Dulce house with his parents. Watson was described as taller than six feet, weighing about 175 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. The teen-ager is white, six feet tall, 130 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes, authorities said.
