Lebanese Returns Favor Hezbollah
The biggest single bloc in the Lebanese Parliament will probably be the pro-Iranian Hezbollah (Party of God), which scored sweeping victories in the country’s first election in 20 years.
Early results Monday showed Hezbollah and its pro-Syrian allies well ahead of their political opponents after Sunday’s third and final round of voting in an election boycotted by most mainstream Christians.
“The Christians should blame no one but themselves. They dropped the ball, and Hezbollah picked it up,” said a Western diplomat.
Officials said final results are not expected until mid-week.
