Monterey Park : Balderrama to Be Sworn In
Fred Balderrama will be sworn in as mayor at 7 p.m. Monday at Luminarias restaurant. Councilwoman Marie T. Purvis will be mayor pro tem. Balderrama, who was elected to the City Council in 1990, is past president of the Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce and active in the Boys and Girls Club, Rotary Club and the county Economy & Efficiency Committee.
Under a resolution adopted by the council in 1982, the office of mayor rotates every 9 1/2 months. This allows all five members to serve as mayor during their four-year terms.
