Share

A postal carrier who was injured after a mailbox fell on him sued the owners of an Oxnard four-plex Wednesday for alleged neglect in properly maintaining their property.

William Barnes filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Ventura County Superior Court charging Domenci and Ernestine Strangio with negligence in maintaining a mailbox at their property in the 5400 block of Driftwood Street.

Barnes is also seeking damages for personal injury and emotional distress. According to the suit, the incident occurred while Barnes was putting mail in the mailbox on Sept. 9, 1991.

Douglas Stenzel, Barnes’ attorney, said the box fell on Barnes, which caused him to fall to the ground and injure his back. Barnes has not worked since the accident but is still on the U. S. Postal Service payroll, Stenzel said.

Ernestine Strangio, who is an absentee owner, said she was unaware of the accident and the lawsuit.
