Singer Larry Ober won’t soon forget the dramatic conclusion to last September’s “Saddleback Swings,” a concert that also featured such fellow O.C.-based jazz musicians as trumpeter Tony Guerrero and saxman Greg Vail.

Like this year’s “Saddleback Swings,” which will take place Tuesday at the McKinney Theatre on the Saddleback College campus in Mission Viejo, it was a benefit for the Angels, a nonprofit group that donates funds to performing arts programs at the school.

Last year’s show, which drew 400 people, “was only supposed to go two hours,” Ober recalls, “but it ran 3 1/2. And at the end, we put up the houselights and everybody was still there! There was so much energy. It was special.”

This year’s will feature the same musicians: Ober, Guerrero, Vail, singer-pianist Yve Evans and singers Steve Briggs, Diana Ditri and Chuck Ousley. The whole thing started out as Ober’s idea. “We have so many performers who reside here,” he noted. “I thought, why not give it a go?

“And since the first concert was such an unqualified success, they wanted another. We hope to do even better with this year’s show. Though I have a feeling it won’t run as long.”
