And That’s the Way It Is: Eleven years after stepping down as anchor of the “CBS Evening News,” Walter Cronkite is losing his last regularly scheduled assignment with his network of more than four decades. “Walter Cronkite’s 20th Century,” a this-day-in-history feature of the CBS Radio Network, will be discontinued after Sept. 25. A soft advertising market prompted the decision. Cronkite, 75, said, “Sure, I’m sort of sorry that I don’t have anything going (with CBS) at the moment, but it’s not critical in my thinking. I’m not crying bitter tears over it. It was not unexpected.” He started the radio feature in November, 1987.
