BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : These Guys Still Don’t Get the Picture

Share

The Dodgers have rescheduled their annual team photo session for today after seven players failed to arrive in time for Thursday’s 4 p.m. session.

Normally the photograph would be printed without the missing players--last year’s team photo did not include Darryl Strawberry or Juan Samuel.

But Manager Tom Lasorda, who takes pride in such things, was convinced that this year’s players had good reasons for being late. Lasorda said most of the players, some who come from outlying areas, were stuck in traffic.

“I talked to all of them, and they all tried to get here, so we’ll just do it again,” said Lasorda, who held a team meeting before deciding to reschedule.

The missing players were Strawberry, Eric Davis, Ramon Martinez, Pedro Martinez, Henry Rodriguez, Bob Ojeda and Kevin Gross.

Davis said he received a speeding ticket because he was trying to make it on time.

The oddest reason for tardiness came from Strawberry.

“I had things to do,” Strawberry said.

Davis confirmed that he will undergo shoulder surgery at the same time as his wrist and hand. “Three for the price of one,” Davis said. He hopes the surgery will take place early next week. . . . Todd Benzinger and Mitch Webster, each with 13 pinch-hits, have a chance to tie the Los Angeles record for pinch-hits in a season. It is 15, shared by Manny Mota (1974) and Ed Goodson (1976). . . . Two of the National League’s top three RBI men since the All-Star break are Terry Pendleton (42) and Barry Bonds (37). The other? Eric Karros, with 41.
