2 Men Shot to Death in Hawthorne in Apparent Gang-Related Killings

Two men were shot and killed in separate pre-dawn attacks early Saturday in Hawthorne, but authorities said they were unsure whether the apparent gang-related murders were connected.

Alvaro Domingo Gonzalez, 20, was killed in a drive-by shooting shortly after midnight as he stood with several friends at Jim Thorpe Park in the 14000 block of Prairie Avenue, said Sgt. Ron Spear of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Gonzalez was taken to Robert F. Kennedy Medical Center in Hawthorne but died a short time later, Spear said.

About four hours after that shooting, an 18-year-old man was gunned down while standing outside a liquor store at Prairie and 130th Street, about nine blocks away, Spear said. The man, whose name was not released, was with his brother and a few friends when several male Latinos pulled up in a white Ford Tempo, the police sergeant said.

A man got out of the car and shot the victim once with a handgun. He died soon after his arrival at Robert F. Kennedy Medical Center, Spear said.

No suspects have been arrested, police said.
