San Diego State gained its first ranking in 15 years and Notre Dame dropped four spots in the Associated Press college football poll after a tie with Michigan.

The Aztecs (1-0-1), who upset Brigham Young Thursday night, are ranked No. 23. The last time San Diego State was in the rankings was at the end of the 1977 season. The Aztecs are ranked 21st in the CNN/USA Today poll.

Notre Dame (1-0) fell from No. 3 to No. 7 in both polls after tying Michigan, 17-17. The Wolverines (0-0-1) remained in the No. 6 position in both.

Miami (1-0-1), which was idle, and Washington (2-0), which beat Wisconsin, 27-10, held the 1-2 positions in both polls.
