Birtcher Medical Systems Inc.: The Irvine manufacturer of surgical products reported a loss of $1.2 million, or 14 cents a share, for the fiscal year ended June 30, which included $6.6 million in charges. That compares to net income of $6.3 million, or 81 cents a share, for fiscal 1991. Sales were up 4%, to $52.5 million from $50.3 million. For the fourth quarter, the company lost $1.7 million, or 18 cents a share, after taking a $2-million charge for the closing of its Solos Endoscopy facility in Atlanta. Net income for the prior-year period totaled $1.96 million, or 23 cents a share. Sales dropped 14%, to $11.5 million from $13.4 million.
