John Miltner Memorial Planned

A campus memorial service will be held Tuesday for former UC Irvine Vice Chancellor John R. Miltner, who died recently after serving a little more than a year as president of Millikin University in Decatur, Ill.

The ceremony will be from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Irvine Barclay Theater near the Campus Drive approach to the university.

Miltner, who died Sept. 6 after intensive therapy for a rare form of skin cancer, served for eight years as UCI’s vice chancellor for advancement and helped guide the campus to new records in private donations. In July, 1991, Miltner fulfilled a lifelong ambition to be a college president when he took the helm at Millikin, a small liberal arts college.

Miltner is survived by his wife, Carol, and five children. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial gifts be made in Miltner’s name to the American Cancer Society.
