WATCHWORD ORANGE: After efforts to energize his campaign in Orange County this week, George Bush will watch the polls to see if it helped enough. GOP analyst Roger Ailes, architect of Bush’s 1988 campaign, predicted on the NBC “Today” show Tuesday that Bush will decide in a couple of weeks whether to write off California to Bill Clinton. The key, Ailes says, will be how Bush does in Orange County polls. . . . Bush was in a dead heat with Clinton here in a recent survey, but experts say the President would need a 300,000 margin here to carry California.
