GARDEN GROVE : Nude Juice Bar Can’t Be Built, Judge Rules

Share

A Superior Court judge ruled Thursday against establishment of a nude juice bar, saying the City Council and Planning Commission had a “legitimate concern” in denying permission to build the cabaret.

After listening to more than an hour of arguments, Judge C. Robert Jameson said that Garden Grove officials had a right to be concerned about the “demography” of the nearby residential area, as well as the number of parking spaces the proposed establishment would require on Garden Grove Boulevard.

The proposal to build the nude juice bar was brought by Waldon R. Welty, who now owns an adult bookstore on the site.

Welty told the city he wanted to tear down the bookstore to build the bar, but the proposal has sparked heated opposition from residents.

Jameson rejected the city’s argument that the juice bar would increase blight, saying that he had inspected the existing building, which he said was “already blighted,” and that a new building would probably be less so.

Welty said he would appeal the ruling.
