Liz Tilberis, the new editor of Harper’s Bazaar, breezed through town last week on the 15-minutes-of-fame tour. She was holding court at the Regent Beverly Wilshire to accept accolades on her redo of the magazine. In the debut issue she invited readers to enter the era of elegance. When asked how she planned to combine elegance and the gnarly street influences that drive so many fashion trends, Tilberis’ answer showed she’s spent more time ramp-side than curb-side, “Mr. Lagerfeld (Karl, of Chanel) does a wonderful job interpreting street trends. And Calvin’s (Klein) new lean things are elegant and very very street.”

* TUNING IN: Todd Oldham was also on the East-greets-West tour. The Texan designer often travels to Los Angeles. He has a regular teaching position at Otis / Parsons and last week he was tapped as the Beverly Center’s resident designer, (one tough commute, since he lives in New York).

Oldham has a growing legion of faithful in the entertainment business. The latest big name to shop his showroom is Candice Bergen. He says he wasn’t sure if the plaid blouse, a suit decorated with door pulls and something from the Napoleon’s bedroom series were for Bergen or her TV alter ego Murphy Brown since Murphy often wears Donna Karan. Nonplussed at the thought of America’s most controversial single mom wearing his more outrageous clothes Oldham said, “We’ll see if I’m the punch line of some joke.”

* TRUNK SHOW: Hector (Macho) Camacho lost his big pay-per-view fight last Saturday in Las Vegas. But he’s not worried; he’s already planning his life beyond the canvas, says his wife Amy. Camacho, known for his flamboyant ring attire, is being wooed by fashion licensing companies and when he is not training often sketches as many as 20 outfits a day.

His creations are not confined to the ring says Amy, he wears them around the house. “He dresses how he feels and that’s how he acts. He walks around barefoot wearing his trunks, they’re really more like skirts. He’ll even go into town with nothing but those things on.”
