The United Auto Workers authorized its second strike against General Motors Corp. in less than a month Friday, warning of a walkout at the Lansing body plant.

The “five-day letter” was received by the leading auto maker at 10 a.m., notifying the company that the 4,200 members of Local 602 will strike Sept. 25 unless issues are worked out, GM spokeswoman Linda Cook said.

A strike at the plant would affect only one other plant, unlike the recent strike at an Ohio parts plant that shut down nine other plants, the company said.

Cook declined to comment on issues that prompted the strike threat at the Lansing plant, although she said negotiations would continue.

“We are hopeful that we can get them resolved,” Cook said.

There was no answer at Local 602 on Friday afternoon.
