Barefoot kicker Tommy Thompson booted three field goals Saturday as Oregon broke the nation’s longest Division I losing streak with a 16-13 victory over Texas Tech.

The winning kick was a 47-yarder 2:28 into the second half. Texas Tech quarterback Robert Hall missed on four consecutive passes in the final minute, turning the ball over to the Ducks on downs with 22 seconds left.

The Ducks (1-2) broke an eight-game losing streak.

Texas Tech (1-2), playing its first road game, missed a chance to avenge last year’s 28-13 loss to Oregon at Lubbock.

Ronnie Harris set up Thompson’s winning kick with a 23-yard punt return that gave Oregon the ball on Texas Tech’s 31-yard line.

Both teams missed opportunities to score in the second half after playing to a 13-13 tie at halftime.

Thompson had a 37-yard field-goal attempt blocked in the fourth quarter, and Oregon’s Danny O’Neil had a pass intercepted by Tracy Saul with 6:20 left.

Hall was 16 of 37 for 255 yards and a touchdown. He completed only two of his last eight passes, the last one thrown behind flanker Derrell Mitchell and batted away inside the Oregon five with 22 seconds left.

Oregon held tailback Byron (Bam) Morris, who had 103 yards against Oklahoma and 107 yards against Wyoming, to 41 yards in 13 carries.
