BIG WEST ROUNDUP : Nevada Wins With Air Vargas
Chris Vargas passed for 466 yards and three touchdowns to lead the University of Nevada to a 31-21 victory over McNeese State on Saturday at Reno, Nev.
Vargas set a Big West Conference record with 43 completions in 75 attempts, with touchdown passes of one, 17, and 28 yards as the Wolfpack (2-1) rolled up 546 yards overall. The previous record of 42 completions was shared by Dan Speltz of Cal State Fullerton and Troy Kopp of Pacific.
San Jose State 38, Southwestern Louisiana 13--Rich Garcia threw one touchdown pass and ran for another to help the Spartans (2-1) score 24 fourth-quarter points.
Boise State 17, Pacific 7--Mike Dodd kicked three field goals and quarterback Travis Stuart ran 25 yards for a touchdown for the Broncos (1-2) at Boise, Ida.Troy Kopp hit 38 of 55 passes for 371 yards for Pacific (0-3).
Nevada Las Vegas 40, Northern Arizona 7--Henry Bailey caught two touchdown passes, including a 76-yarder, for UNLV (2-0).
