A 42-year-old Simi Valley woman was killed Sunday when a suspected drunk driver veered his pickup truck across the center line of Grimes Canyon Road near Fillmore and sideswiped her car, authorities said.

An unidentified 29-year-old Santa Paula man who had been driving the pickup was arrested and held on suspicion of drunk driving and manslaughter, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.

The accident occurred about 3 p.m. as the woman, whose name was not released, drove a Ford Mustang carrying her 36-year-old sister and a 12-year-old boy south in the 17000 block of Grimes Canyon Road near Bardsdale Avenue, according to Ventura County Deputy Coroner Dale Zentzis and the CHP.

The driver of the pickup truck was heading north when he swerved to the left and slammed into the driver’s side of the Mustang, crushing the woman in the car, Zentzis said.

The victim’s sister and the boy were taken to Santa Paula Hospital where they were treated and released, emergency room workers said. Hospital workers said the boy is the nephew of both the victim and her sister; his mother was not in the car.

Zentzis said he didn’t want to release the identity of the victim until family members are notified.
