Bobby Hebert said the noise reminded him of home.

However, Hebert and the New Orleans Saints weren’t distracted enough to keep them from having a successful first visit to the Georgia Dome.

Morten Andersen’s 47-yard field goal with 1:51 remaining gave New Orleans a 10-7 victory over the Atlanta Falcons Sunday.

“The noise,” Hebert said. “We got a taste of our own medicine.”

Falcon Coach Jerry Glanville hoped a noisy crowd would dish out some of the medicine Saint fans give opponents in the Louisiana Superdome.

Although the noise didn’t seem to faze the Saints, Hebert said it did make it hard to communicate.

“It’s impossible sometimes,” he said. “You can’t adjust the play according to their defense, as far as the audibles. It’s really just too loud.”

A 21-yard screen pass from Hebert to Craig Heyward was the key play in a drive from the New Orleans 27 to the Atlanta 29, resulting in Andersen’s game-winning field goal.

“I’m a glutton for those types of kicks,” Andersen said. “I knew it was a medium kick. I don’t ask the distance. I know if you hit the ball properly, it’ll go 60.”

The Saints (2-1) reached the Atlanta 30 late in the third quarter, but were denied a scoring opportunity when a holding infraction on Jim Dombrowski nullified a long gain and set them back 40 yards, forcing a punt.

Hebert’s 11-yard scoring pass to Quinn Early lifted New Orleans into a 7-7 tie in the third quarter.

The Falcons fell to 1-2.

“I don’t think we got beat,” Glanville said. “I just think we ran out of time. As long as we’re playing New Orleans, every game is like that. It’s a great rivalry.”

After netting only 69 yards in 19 plays in the first half, the Saints took the second-half kickoff and marched 64 yards to gain a 7-7 tie.

A roughing-the-passer penalty on Tim Green added 15 yards to a 13-yard pass from Hebert to Wesley Carroll and on the next play Vaughn Dunbar broke through for 25 yards to the Atlanta four, where Deion Sanders made a touchdown-saving tackle.

After a loss and a penalty, Hebert found Early free in the end zone for the tying score 3:54 into the second half.
