MacLean Considers Greek Team

Don MacLean is giving serious consideration to signing with a team in Greece, rather than with the Clippers, and will decide within a few days, his agent said Sunday.

Arn Tellem said PAOK has offered a two-year deal worth “way more than what he would earn here,” but also set the mid-week deadline for a decision.

MacLean, who played at UCLA and Simi Valley High, would prefer to stay in Los Angeles and the NBA, but negotiations with the Clippers are dragging as team officials await a decision from Stanley Roberts regarding the three-team trade with Orlando and New York.

“He’s seriously considering it,” Tellem said of the deal with PAOK. “His hope is that things can be worked out with the Clippers because he would like to be here, but he has an attractive offer.”

Roberts, the Orlando Magic center who has veto power on any deal for a year, concluded his weekend visit to Los Angeles by attending a party at the Malibu home of owner Donald T. Sterling on Sunday.

Roberts remained noncommittal about his future, other than to say he would spend a few days in Florida considering options. But agent Oscar Shoenfelt said there was a chance Roberts might visit another team interested in his services later in the week. He declined to name the city.

Tellem and the Clippers have been negotiating and could have a deal soon after Roberts agrees, the agent said. But if Roberts continues to drag out his decision, or again declines to come to Los Angeles, MacLean may run out of patience. Or, the Clippers could make another trade and then not have much room under the salary cap to sign MacLean.
