NEWBURY PARK : Second Escape From East Valley Station

A 31-year-old Ventura County woman arrested on suspicion of violating her probation escaped Monday from the East Valley Sheriff’s Station by walking out of the building, authorities said. It was the second such escape in three months.

Pamela Ann Green was wearing handcuffs at the time of her escape about 12:30 p.m., Lt. George Conahey said.

Green had been arrested about noon at a Newbury Park motel on suspicion of having violated her probation for previous narcotics convictions, Conahey said.

She was taken to the station on Olsen Road, and a deputy left her sitting in an interview room with her hands cuffed behind her back.

Conahey said deputies often have to leave suspects unattended while they are completing paperwork on a case.

When the deputy returned, he found the door open and Green gone. Officers assume she left through an exit door near the interview room.

A helicopter crew, canine unit and other officers searched the station’s grounds for Green, without success, Conahey said. Patrol officers continued to search for Green on Monday night, he said.

On June 21, Andres Martinez escaped from the same station under nearly identical circumstances, Conahey said.

Martinez, 28, of San Diego, had been handcuffed to a ring under a table in an interview room when he escaped. Conahey said the suspect had gotten the handcuffs free from the table before walking out of the station.

Martinez has not been found.

His and Green’s escapes are the only two that have occurred at the station since it opened in January, 1989, Conahey said.

But Sheriff’s Department officials may put alarms on the doors to interview rooms or require that suspects not be left unattended in the station, he said.
