Wayne Gretzky, who has been hospitalized since Wednesday with a strained upper back, could be released today from Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood.

“He is improving over the last few days,” said King owner Bruce McNall, who was at the NHL’s Hall of Fame ceremony in Toronto on Monday.

“He should be released (today). We’ll know more then since the test results will be finalized.”

McNall was asked whether the injury was career-threatening.

“That’s not the type of danger involved,” he said. “It’s just a delayed type of thing. It’s indefinite right now.”
