Foodmaker Plans to Expand in Far East, Latin America

SAN DIEGO — Foodmaker Corp., the San Diego-based operator and franchiser of 1,140 Jack in the Box fast-food restaurants, plans to open 700 more outlets in the Far East and Latin America during the next decade through franchising and joint-venture agreements. The expansion program will focus on Mexico, Singapore and China.
Foodmaker said that Ta-Tung (Tony) Wang has been named president of Foodmaker’s international operations to oversee the expansion. Wang, 47, most recently headed W.R. Grace & Co.’s food services division.
A growing number of domestic fast-food companies are turning to overseas markets to bolster flagging domestic profits, according to officials at the Washington, D.C.-based American Restaurant Assn.
