VENTURA : City Adopts Hazard Mitigation Plan

Share

Ventura officials have drafted a report that outlines the damage the city incurred during the February floods, as well as proposed measures to prevent or limit future damage.

The Ventura City Council adopted the Hazard Mitigation Plan, which will make the city eligible for federal disaster funds to pay for damage incurred during the floods.

The Ventura Beach RV Resort on West Main Street was flooded, and a homeless man living in the nearby river bottom drowned. About 40 recreational vehicles were damaged or destroyed, and one was washed out to sea.

The city is requesting about $700,000 in federal funds to reimburse fire and police workers and to pay for cleanup and emergency repair work to storm drains and debris basins. City officials say they won’t know how much money they will receive for at least two years.

The plan adopted Monday includes general suggestions, such as better coordination of communication between the city and the county, as well as specific measures for the RV park.
