Crash Investigation Causes Traffic Jam

Traffic was nearly halted for more than five hours Wednesday on Wendy Drive in the Thousand Oaks area after an automobile accident in which a sheriff’s deputy was slightly injured, authorities said.
The accident occurred a few minutes after 2 p.m. and involved two cars, one a patrol car driven by Sheriff’s Deputy James Costelloe, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Greg Whitesell.
Costelloe was slightly injured in the collision, but was released after he was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center for observation, Whitesell said.
No details of the accident were available, and the identity of the second driver was not released by officials.
The California Highway Patrol officers who responded to the accident closed all but a single lane of Wendy and Michael drives during their investigation.
Traffic backed up on the two busy streets as the investigation continued during rush hour, said a CHP spokeswoman. The streets were finally cleared about 8 p.m., the spokeswoman said.
