Terry Jordan completed 23 of 25 passes for 361 yards and made several key plays that led to the game-winning touchdown Saturday during No. 23 North Carolina State’s 27-20 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over North Carolina.

Greg Manior scored two touchdowns, including one from a yard out with 61 seconds left to give North Carolina State, 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the ACC, the victory. The Wolfpack has won five consecutive games against the Tar Heels and six of the last seven.

“One thing we knew we had to do going into the game was get him off his rhythm,” North Carolina Coach Mack Brown said of Jordan, “and that’s something we didn’t do all day.”

The score was 13-13 when Jordan connected with Eddie Goines on a 46-yard pass play that set up a one-yard scoring dive with 10:46 left. The drive covered 67 yards in five plays.

Goines finished with nine catches for 163 yards.

North Carolina (3-1, 1-1) came right back, driving 64 yards to set up Natrone Means’ one-yard touchdown run with 5:17 left.

But Jordan, who completed 12 consecutive passes during the first half, engineered a 78-yard, 11-play drive that took four minutes and left North Carolina with little time to mount its final charge. During the game-winning drive, Jordan completed a 23-yard pass to Goines that put the Wolfpack at the North Carolina 18.

“It was a critical situation,” North Carolina linebacker Tommy Thigpen said. “I didn’t think they could get it 10 yards deep on us.”

After Anthony Barbour rushed for seven yards, Manior carried the final three times for 11 yards, going over the top for the clinching touchdown.

“That last drive solidified confidence for the offensive line,” North Carolina State Coach Dick Sheridan said.
