Machinists Vote on USAir Offer: USAir could be hit by a strike from its ground crew workers as early as Saturday after machinists finish voting on an offer that union leaders want rejected, a union spokesman said. A strike by the airline’s 8,300 Machinists Union members would put mechanics and related workers off the job at the country’s sixth-largest airline. A USAir spokesman would not say whether a strike would mean flight cancellations but said the airline has a contingency plan ready. Negotiators temporarily avoided a walkout last week when USAir made its latest offer and the union sent it to workers for a vote.
