OXNARD : Police Arrest Man in Hit-and-Run

Observant witnesses helped police nab an Oxnard man who struck a women standing outside the Oxnard Transportation Center with his car and, minutes later, drove over her to flee the scene, police said.

Anna Wright, 65, of Rio Dell in Humboldt County, suffered multiple chest injuries and was rushed into surgery at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard shortly after the 3:10 p.m. accident, police said.

Monday evening, she was in serious condition in the intensive-care unit recovering from fractured ribs, a broken clavicle and numerous chest bruises, a nursing supervisor said.

Oscar Murillo, 19, of Oxnard was arrested a few blocks from the scene after witnesses gave police his car’s license number, authorities said. He was taken into custody on suspicion of felony hit-and-run driving and booked into Ventura County Jail, officials said.

Witnesses told police that Murillo was traveling east on 4th Street near Meta Street when he struck Wright. He stopped for one or two minutes, then drove away, driving his vehicle over Wright’s body, according to witnesses.
