Going, Going, Gone: More than 600 photographs, film scripts and other memorabilia belonging to actor James Cagney have been sold at auction in New York by his estate. The sale, expected to bring in some $500,000 for his widow Billie, included items that ranged from his first pair of tap shoes to mismatched cuff links ($350). Most of the 300 participants appeared to be souvenir hunters searching for memorabilia rather than professional buyers looking to make a profit, auctioneers said. An assortment of handkerchiefs went for $425, a collection of ties for $750. Cagney’s painting of a punch-drunk fighter, said to be one of his favorites, sold for $22,000.
