The commander of the surface fleet in the Pacific has been nominated to become the Navy’s inspector general. Vice Adm. David Bennett, whose headquarters are in San Diego, was nominated by President Bush on Thursday.

Bennett, whose nomination requires confirmation by the Senate, would succeed Rear Adm. George Davis. Davis is one of three Washington admirals fired or forced to retire for botching the investigation of the Tailhook sex scandal.
