Woman Hospitalized After Car, School Bus Plunge Off I-10
A car collided with a school bus carrying 10 children and both vehicles plunged into a drainage ditch Friday, seriously injuring a passenger in the automobile and causing minor injuries to the children, who were wearing seat belts, officials said.
The car, driven by Osvaldo Barron, 19, was darting in and out of traffic on Interstate 10 when it struck the small bus at 2:10 p.m., California Highway Patrol spokesman John Savage said.
The bus and car tumbled 60 feet into the ditch. The bus was carrying special education students from Kimberly Elementary School and Smiley Elementary School, both in Redlands, Savage said.
“All the kids were properly restrained with seat belts,” he said.
Barron suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. His female passenger, whose identity wasn’t released, was hospitalized with serious injuries, Savage said.
The schoolchildren suffered minor bruises and scrapes and were taken various local hospitals, he said. No arrests had been made.
