BALDWIN HILLS : Automated Help for Filing Small Claims
- Share via
The Los Angeles Municipal Court has installed a machine at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza that provides information on how to handle small-claims cases.
The machine, modeled after a bank automatic teller machine, provides information on filing and serving a claim and how to prepare for court. The automated service, which is available 24 hours, has been in operation for about a month, said deputy clerk supervisor Sandy Ishman.
“It saves time because now people don’t have to stand in long lines or go to the downtown civil court to get started,” Ishman said.
Court administrator Ed Kritzman said the automated service consolidates court operations by allowing customers to get small-claims information at the same location where they pay traffic tickets and sign up for traffic school.
Kritzman said the office, at 3650 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., also will accept paperwork to file small-claims cases in the metropolitan area.
