UCLA wide receiver Sean LaChapelle suffered a cracked rib during the Bruins’ 23-3 loss at Arizona last Saturday night, but he might be able to play against Stanford Saturday night at the Rose Bowl, depending upon how much pain he can tolerate. His condition will be re-evaluated later this week.

LaChapelle was injured on UCLA’s first play of the second half when he was accidentally kneed in the back by an Arizona defender as he was blocking for tailback Kevin Williams. LaChapelle sat out the rest of the game.

UCLA’s offense struggled after losing LaChapelle, who had four catches for 29 yards to surpass Mike Sherrard as UCLA’s career receiving leader with 131 receptions. The Wildcats shut the Bruins out for the first 58 minutes 39 seconds of the game.

The Bruins, who had given up only 31 points in their first three games, surrendered 23 points after losing three linebackers.

Linebacker Arnold Ale is sidelined for the season after suffering a broken right leg. Ale, who shared the team lead in sacks last season with Jamir Miller, was injured as he tried to tackle tailback Chuck Levy at the Bruins’ two-yard line during the first quarter.

Outside linebacker Bradley Craig was released from the University Medical Center in Tucson Sunday morning after being hospitalized overnight for observation of possible internal injuries. Craig, who suffered a bruised abdomen, is expected to play against Stanford.

Reserve linebacker Shane Jasper suffered a sprained left knee and will be sidelined indefinitely.
