Daniel B. Grady, 16-Year Trustee of Community Colleges, Dies at 70
Daniel B. Grady, a trustee of the San Diego Community College District for 16 years, died Sunday at age 70.
Grady served on the first elected community college board when the district was created in 1973, and helped the three-campus system develop its adult literacy program and work out a long-term budgeting system.
“He was a kind and compassionate man who cared deeply about the students and employees,” Chancellor Augustine Gallego said Monday.
In 1989, when funds were lacking for a summer youth sports program at San Diego City College, Grady stepped in and loaned $12,500 of his own money to tide the program over for the summer.
Grady was chairman of the board of Monfric Inc. of San Diego, which developed and managed 45 residential projects totaling more than 5,000 units, mostly in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
He is survived by his wife, Rita, and two sons, John and Michael, all of San Diego. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at All Hallow’s Catholic Church in La Jolla.
