Tovar Sentenced: Former Southern California rock concert promoter Gary Tovar, 40, has been sentenced in Phoenix to seven years in federal prison in a marijuana trafficking case. Tovar pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to possess marijuana with intent to distribute, one of attempted possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and one of operating a continuing criminal enterprise. After his arrest in March, 1991, Tovar gave up ownership of his Goldenvoice concert promotion firm, which championed punk and alternative-rock bands beginning in the early ‘80s.
