SANTA ANA : Suspect Brought Back From Mexico

A Santa Ana man who was arrested in Mexico is to be arraigned on murder charges today, eight months after he allegedly killed a man with three bullets to the chest, police said Tuesday.
Two Santa Ana homicide detectives were on hand for the arrest of Victor Silva Romero, 19, at a relative’s home outside Acapulco last week, police spokeswoman Maureen Haacker said.
Romero is suspected of killing Santa Ana resident Alex Cardenas, 20, on Jan. 29, Haacker said. Police investigators located Romero a few days ago with the help of Mexican police, Haacker said.
“The law enforcement arm does reach down to Mexico and we are able to bring suspects back to face all the charges,” Haacker said.
The fatal shooting apparently was sparked by an argument in which Cardenas accused Romero of marking graffiti on a nearby wall on Kilson Drive, Haacker said.
After last week’s arrest, Romero waived an extradition hearing and was transported to Santa Ana on Monday, Haacker said.
Haacker did not know when Romero fled for Mexico.
