Homer Gets Religion: “Simpsons” creator Matt Groening is braced to take some heat for tonight’s episode--in which God makes a cameo appearance and Homer founds a religion--but says, “ultimately it’s a very sweet story if people watch it all the way to the end.” In “Homer the Heretic” (8 p.m. on Fox), good things happen to Homer after he stays home from church one Sunday, and he takes this as a sign never to go again. Groening said God is depicted “as a big guy with a long beard and cloak. We don’t actually see his face.” Harry Shearer, who plays a number of regular characters on the show and who was the voice of Satan in an episode two seasons ago, does the voice of God.
